چکیده

We consider the interaction between perturbations in the inflaton and in the metric during the preheating phase in simple inflationary models. By numerically integrating the Einstein field equations we are able to gauge the impact of non-linear gravitational effects on preheating for the first time. In the λφ model we find a large increase in the amplitude of sub-Hubble metric modes, beyond that due to gravitational collapse alone. There is significant mode-mode coupling and the amplification is eventually terminated by back reaction effects. We suggest that such enhancement of inhomogeneity will change the behaviour of the post-inflationary universe. PACS numbers: 98.80Cq, 04.25.Dm BROWN-HET-1181, TA-573

Preheating after Inflation

In inflationary cosmology, the particles constituting the Universe are created after inflation in the process of reheating due to the interaction with the oscillating inflaton field. We briefly review the basics of the slow reheating, and the stage of fast preheating, when the particles are created explosively in the regime of parametric resonance. The non-perturbative, out-of-equilibrium chara...

Classical Preheating and Decoherence

We establish the equivalence between the quantum evolution of spatially homogeneous oscillations of a scalar field and that of an analogous classical system with certain random initial condition. We argue that this observation can be used for numerical simulation of the Universe in the preheating epoch. We also explicitly demonstrate that the phenomenon of parametric resonance that leads to pre...

The Preheating - Gravitational Wave Correspondence: I

The gravitational wave equations form a parametric resonance system during oscillatory reheating after inflation, when cast in terms of the electric and magnetic parts of the Weyl tensor. This is in direct analogy with preheating. For chaotic inflation with a quadratic potential, this analogy is exact. The resulting amplification of the gravitational wave spectrum begins in the broad resonance ...

Pattern Formation in the Early Universe

Systems that exhibit pattern formation are typically driven and dissipative. In the early universe, parametric resonance can drive explosive particle production called preheating. The fields that are populated then decay quantum mechanically if their particles are unstable. Thus, during preheating, a driven-dissipative system exists. We have shown previously that pattern formation can occur in ...

We discuss the interaction between perturbations in the inflaton and the background during the preheating phase in simple inflationary models. By numerically solving the Einstein field equations we are able to assess the impact of non-linear gravitational effects on preheating, and to assess the accuracy of perturbative discussions of the preheating epoch.
